The Converse x Devin Booker Chuck 70, perhaps fittingly dubbed “THE NEXT ICON,” is the latest and greatest pair of classic-meets-modern sneakers to add to your rotation this spring.
On the surface, the pair looks as simple and crisp as ever, and the key is the use of natural undyed canvas, plus clean tape throughout and a canvas toe.
The revamped take on a timeless classic made perfect sense to the NBA All-Star.
“The Chuck 70 is part of my uniform, I put all that together into the design,” Booker said, calling the OG design “clean, classic and timeless.”
Booker’s personal touch and the Chuck 70’s penchant for streamlined minimalism comes together handsomely in the final product, which hit Nike’s Web site for a highly agreeable, wildly affordable $95 (although they very well might fetch more on the secondary market from discerning sneakerheads or NBA diehards).
The Converse x Devin Booker Chuck 70 is, at its core, “a tonal execution with design nods to vintage Americana,” Nike said.
The license plate heel logo also nods to Booker’s current team, turning Arizona’s state license plate into a small but distinctive design detail.
Nike also calls the collaboration “the evolution of an icon,” a fitting nod to both the history of the Chuck 70 and Booker’s ever-evolving NBA trajectory.
The gum rubber outsole is another classic Converse detail that shines through that much more, thanks to the tonal execution throughout the upper.
Rumors are swirling that Booker might receive his own Nike, game-ready signature shoe next season, but in the meantime, these crisp, seriously cool sneakers should work well for off-duty style (if you can find a pair, that is).
